Practical Knowledge and Experience - For a Change

For more than a decade Carol Javens has called Wheeling home, moving to the northwest suburbs with her husband to raise their two children, sons Gregory and Trevor.Carol believes that a community working together, grows together, and during her time in Wheeling Carol has dedicated her free time to volunteer work as a Sunday school teacher at her local church, a mentor with Omni Youth Services’ Reality Theater and the DiverSCities projects.

As the mother of a special education student, Carol has become intimately involved with the inner-workings of our education system. So much so that in 2006 she volunteered her time as Campaign Manager for the successful re-election of the District 214 school board incumbents. Carol’s dedication and innovative approach to the campaign helped ensure that District 214’s leadership remained intact and our schools continue to deliver a first class education to our children.

Carol attended community college before completing her nursing degree from St. Joseph College of Nursing. As a student who utilized the community college system, Carol understands the affordable opportunities it provides not only our youth, but all residents of the Northwest suburbs.

Carol currently serves as the Director of Nursing at the Plum Grove of Palatine, a long-term care facility serving our communities’ senior community. On the front lines of the health care industry Carol has seen what happens when the system fails our families and our seniors. Carol sees the gaps and difficulties created by the decreased availability of affordable health care, and will fight to keep this issue at the forefront of Illinois’ legislative agenda. Her vast experience with health care policy implementation will give her the unique opportunity to bring real world experience and understanding to the vital issue of access to affordable health care.

While working with the District 214 School Board members during their re-election, Carol was responsible for bring people from both political parties together behind a common goal. Carol’s ability to navigate crisis and reach across party lines will finally give our families a voice in Springfield that demands results and knows how to achieve them. The current divisiveness in Springfield is crippling our state and we need level-headed, common sense approaches to the significant challenges we face as a state.
